Concerned about going to Norway in February 2025

We have airline fair booked for Mid-February to March 1. I'm concerned about ease of travel via public transportation (bus, train, ferry, etc.) and ability to see outdoor sites. I'm also concerned about it being blizzards for 14 days and no sun.

What is the weather like during this period and is public transportation reliable? Switching plane tickets will greatly increase our travel expense, is it worth changing to a warmer tourist month (April-August)?

Some sites and activities we're looking at currently are:
Oslo, Bergen, bergensbanen rail to Mryda and Flan (Norway in a Nutshell tour), Tromso, Bono, Aslund, Trondheim, Northern Lights, hiking, spas, cultural sites & tours

I can’t comment on all of your locations but based on the winter travel of my large number of extended family members, winter travel is quite reliable (barring an unexpected rock slide or other unpredictable severe winter hazard). As a few examples, my family travels from Oslo and Stavanger to Trondheim for university and breaks; from south of Bergen to Oslo at Christmas; from Oslo to winter cabin locations for skiing getaways; from Stavanger to Alesund etc. Some have gone to see the Northern lights but the weather impacts how successful viewing them is. Daylight is certainly shorter and that will impact what you can see and that may be the most important consideration. But Norwegians themselves rely on all of those forms of transportation in the winter for work, school, medical appointments etc.

Thank you!
I do appreciate European public transit - I probably should have emphasized more the concerns are on the weather (sunny but cold vs grey/constant snow) we do know how to dress for it - but what you can do in Winter seems more limited. We aren't really fans of municipal areas and greatly enjoy more unique cultural experiences and exploring around. My research isn't seeing as much of that and I feel like I may have jumped a gun too quick when booking :(

Main points:
-Is Norway in the Spring/Summer worth the extra expense to change our tickets?
-While understandably not "prime" is it still possible to see Northern Lights in the summer?

“ While understandably not "prime" is it still possible to see Northern Lights in the summer?”

In order to be able to see the northern lights, you need darkness and a clear sky. In the summer months it hardly gets dark in the northern part of Norway. From May 18 until July 25 the sun stays up all day and doesn’t set at all. And after that it still doesn’t get fully dark at night until September. Your chance to see the northern lights in the summer is 0%

I visited Tromso early February this year and we saw the northern light. It was one of the most beautiful and spectacular things I’ve ever seen.

Northern Lights in the summer

In Northern Norway not before early September. During summer you will have midnight sun up there, so the sun does not disappear behind the horizon.

Under special circumstances and with a lot of luck - definitely unplannable on long-run - you can see Northern Lights more south, e. g. also down to Northern Germany which will lokk like the 18 pictures in the series in this German article.

Fricknbee, Norway is a very expensive country to visit. You may want to look at your other costs ie hotel and do a comparison between February and the more popular summer season to see if there would be much difference in affordability beyond the costs of flights. That may help with your decision making process:)
