Car Travel from Oslo to Solvorn and to Bergen.

We are planning on traveling to Solvorn Norway from Oslo then on to Bergen. It seems that renting a car for this purpose would work best because of the more remote location of Solvorn and the fact that we want freedom to travel in the Solvorn area for activities ( hiking, boat cruses, kayaking, glacier walking) . I'd appreciate input on this conclusion. Also if I rent car in Oslo what would be the best pick up site given Im not eager to drive in Oslo? Also the best return site in Bergen?

Thanks,
Larry

You're probably correct. It's possible to take the train to the airport to pick up a rental car. That may offer the best rates. It may also be time and cost effective to park the car in a garage in Bergen and then use the car to get to the airport on your day of departure.

Personally, I find driving on the narrow country roads with no shoulders or centerline more stressful than driving in Oslo where the lanes and streets are a standard width and well marked.

Also consider the Norway in a Nutshell. It's possible to stay in Finse and do a guided glacier hike from there and you can kayak from Flåm.
