We are going to Bergen for 6 days between 2 Viking Cruises. Question is when a bus trip shows a transfer to another bus, is that a new fare or do we receive a transfer ticket from first bus driver. Are tickets timed like in Stockholm. I don’t find the Skyss website very handy. Google Maps seems better. I see no mention of that passenger ferry from Bradbenken to Nykirkekaien except it departs every 10 minutes. What is the cost. Do you pay on board. Takk.
A single ticket is valid for 90 minutes, so you can change buses without buying a new ticket. Ticket validity increases with 30 minutes for every additional zone. The small ferry across the harbour costs 35 kr for adults if the price hasn't changed recently and you can buy the tickets onboard.
Bus/tram tickets are much less expensive when purchased before boarding. They are sold by a lot of convenience stores like Deli de Luca and 7-11. Don't forget to validate your ticket after boarding.
Bergen is as hilly as it is beautiful, so unless you are hikers, I recommend always having tickets that will get you back into the (relatively flat) center of town. You can't count on finding one of those convenience stores out in an obscure, though picturesque, neighborhood.
Thank you both for explaining this. Very helpful.
But if you are there for 6 days, a weekly pass might be a better option than single tickets.
True, depending on how you feel about walking. I used three tickets over the course of four days; those passes are always a losing proposition for me. I'm not sure--is it Bergen or Oslo that doesn't have a full slate of transit passes, just a 1-day pass and a 1-week pass? One of my guidebooks mentioned that situation and noted that the local sightseeing pass, which includes a transit benefit, comes in a 3-day (I think) flavor. But the sightseeing pass was grotesquely overpriced for what I wanted to do in the city.
Yes, in the end it depends on how much you plan to travel by bus/tram. But the Bergen weekly tickets are pretty good value, 235 kr compared to 40 kr for a single ticket.
