I’m going to Norway in June and will be stopping in Olden. Does anyone have any experience with the bus from Olden to the Mountain Lodge near Briksdahl glacier? Is it a city bus or private transportation? Are reservations needed? I’d like to take a troll car up and walk down. Are reservations needed for the troll cars? Any help would be much appreciated!
Was there with own car. Saw both types of buses but cannot tell which one was what you look for.
I guess that buses used on line 115 looks like on this photo. On regular public bus traffic normally you buy a ticket when using the service. I doubt that reservations are needed there because bus groups have their separate bus.
The valley is very beautiful. I had no reservation and just bought a transport ticket for being brought up which was meaningful in my case - I also took the transport down to the parking lot. I recommend wearing stable footwear for walking around there,
We booked through the Olden Cruise website which was a fun tour bus ride to the glacier parking lot. We then hiked up to the glaciers waterfall/cascade area - a nice hike (pretty busy) - and then back for an eventual return by bus. One woman went swimming in the glacial water, but I was simply happy to dip my hand in.
Part of the fun was watching the bus navigate the narrow roads to the park. We were in the front, so had a great view. Early bird get's the worm, so if you want the best view for the bus ride, get in line ASAP. But, the hike is the highlight.
