Bergen to Tromso in March

What is the best airline to fly from Bergen to Tromso in March? Would that airline also be the best to fly from Tromso to Oslo in March?

My girlfriend and I are coming to Norway for a concert on my birthday and then taking the train to Bergen. Then, we are flying up to Tromso to see if we can see some Northern Lights before flying back to Oslo to fly back to the United States.

Thank in advance.

Go with Norwegian Air. Last fall, we took several flights with them, within Norway. The prices and schedules were very good, but do note that they offer a variety of prices, depending on how much luggage you have, whether you want to reserve a particular seat, etc. Their App is easy to use.

One other thing: this may be all about the Oslo airport and not about Norwegian Air, but we arrived in plenty of time for our flight, and went to the gate for the flight. At one point, I just happened to double-check a flight monitor display, and the gate had been changed to another one, quite a distance away! There had been no announcement or gate-change sign, even at the original gate where we’d been waiting. If I hadn’t caught the different gate on the screen at the airport, we’d have missed our flight. Check the monitor early and often at Oslo, to avoid getting stranded.

Dogsled rides are another attraction at Tromsø, besides Northern Lights. Have a great birthday trip!

Three major airlines are operating Norway: SAS, Norwegian and Wideroe. All very good.

Fjellheisen is a possible view point for NL. Check NL appearance forecast in apps and the weather for clear sky (www.yr.no). Maybe think about doing the trip to North - not necessarily Tromsø - depending on the weather situation with short-term booking.

From Bergen to Tromsø I recommend Widerøe, since they are the only airline flying direct. From Tromsø to Oslo you have a choice between SAS and Norwegian. SAS has in general more frequent departures and in my opinion they have nicer planes.

But, when is this trip? March is really the tail end of the northern lights season, if you're going north early in the month there is a chance, but late in March that chance is a lot smaller. Also keep in mind that you might need to travel far from Tromsø to see the lights.

We will be in Tromso from March 11th through March 14th. We are going on a small tour with Greenlander on the 12th. I haven't decided about the other nights yet. I see they go to Finland a good bit chasing the lights, so I feel like they can put us on them if they are active when we are there. Seeing how this year and next year are supposed to be some of the most active years for Northern Lights, and we have seen them as far south as Mississippi, I hope the lights will still be pretty active then. If not, it will still be a wonderful trip.

I did book with Wideroe for the flight from Bergen to Tromso because it was direct.
