Bergen to Pulpit rock and return to Bergen

Is a drive doable and worthwhile ,or should I take a boat from Bergen to Stavengar then on to Pulpit rock with a tour company?

www.viamichelin.com does not want to give me driving directions, and the map doesn't make it look easy. There is an overnight Bergen-Stavanger ferry by Fjordline. The Flaggruten Express boat stopped running at the end of 2013.
