Bergen to Oslo in 4 days

Hello:

This is my first trip to Norway and I will be travelling solo.
I fly into Bergen 6/26/14 arriving 9:30 am and depart Oslo on 6/30/14 in the early am.
I want to do the Norwary in a nutshell route on the 28th to get from Bergen to Oslo, but need suggestions for how to spend my limited time.
Does anyone recommend splitting the nutshell into two days with a night enroute?
Should I consider a car rental in Bergen for my day of arrival to see more of the area or just remain in Bergen and use public transport to see Mt. Floyen and explore town?
I'd like to experience an outdoor adventure, glacier hike, river rafting, or dog sledding, is any of this possible from Bergen?

Thanks

You have the unfortunate problem of too few days in Norway and too many possible activities if you enjoy outdoor adventure travel.

Given that it's your first trip to Norway and arriving mid morning, you could easily spend your first day and evening exploring the Bryggen Hanseatic wharf and fish market area of Bergen.

You also could easily spend a full day checking out Oslo.

There are multiple options on doing the Nutshell from 24 hours including an overnight train between Bergen and Oslo, to breaking the route into several stages. For example you could overnight at Flaam, rent bikes and peddle up the hill: http://www.visitflam.com/en/biking-on-rallervegen/

The Nutshell website has a lot of ideas as to spending time and money on adventures: http://www.norwaynutshell.com/en/explore-the-fjords/norway-in-a-nutshell/#activities

If you had more time in Norway, the DNT offers guided outdoor trips with English speaking guides: http://english.turistforeningen.no

I agree. Stay in Bergen for the day, enjoy the wharf, Mt. Fløyen, and the city. Renting a car is expensive and you'll see the best scenery on the Norway in a Nutshell route anyway! I would recommend leaving Bergen on the Nutshell tour on the 27th, staying overnight in the fjords somewhere, and arriving in Oslo on the evening of the 28th.

One day (or even half a day, if rushed) is enough time in Bergen. The fjords are the most spectacular part of Norway, so try to maximize your time there. I think a day in Oslo is great (and is enough time to see the big sights: Frogner Park, maybe the Folk Museum and the Viking Ship Museum, and the Munch Museum if you're into art).

Good luck, and please ask if you need more tips!

Thanks for the help.
I think I will spend a full day and one night in Bergen, then take the Nutshell with a stopover enroute, then on to Oslo on a late train spending 2 nights and 1 full day of sightseeing.

Thank you so much,
Jill
