Bergen restaurants

Any recommendations for restaurants in Bergen that won’t break the bank Lol. We like seafood in particular but all suggestions are appreciated.

Here is a copy/paste from my trip report in August of 2024. Their menu had quite a few seafood options.

"Bryggeloftet--Dinner here was one of our favorites. We shared the mussel appetizer, then each had the reindeer filet with asparagus, lingonberries, potatoes and a gravy. Two glasses of wine as well as Prosecco. Total was $162. Service was slow as they were short staffed, but the staff were working as hard as they could and were very nice. When we arrived, the host did not like the table we were assigned and said she was going to move us. I don't know what table that was, but she gave us one with a view out over the harbor, which was very nice."

We were in Bergen in August, and enjoyed the restaurants below. As you'll know everything in Norway is pretty expensive but these weren't ridiculously expensive:

-Bryggeriet- nice location right on the historic waterfront with great views, and very good seafood
-Pingvinen- more of a gastropub, not super expensive but very good, nice atmosphere
-Bryggeloftet & Stuene- the oldest restaurant in Bergen (if I remember correctly), very traditional feeling, slightly more expensive
-If you like seafood, there are also nice restaurants in the fish market right on the waterfront. We had a very nice lunch at one though I can't remember the name- but it had outdoor seating and it was lovely to be right on the water.

For any of those (except the fish market) I would definitely book ahead. In particular Bryggeloftet books up early.

In 2023 we enjoyed dinner at Bryggeloftet on the harbor. Reservations recommended.

You could also wander the fish market and see what looks good. Many of the stalls had tables set up for dining.

We had a delightful meal at Villani Osteria. It's a charming space down a tiny alley. We loved everything we had there - Caesar salad, chicken & potatoes, cheese pizza & wee tiramisu for dessert. We also really enjoyed Fjellskall Sjomatrestaurant right on the waterfront. Everything was fresh and amazing - shrimp, mussels, oysters. But it was a splurge. Enjoy!
