My travel buddy and I are thinking of staying an extra night after the RS tour ends in summer 2027. However, a one-bedroom with two beds, in the lower price category is not available. The next level is over $300 for one night. This is a Thon hotel.
Can anyone recommend a good option that won't break the bank? We are considering Scandic Ørnen.
We will probably skip breakfast as our flight will be early.
I assume you need one bedroom with 2 beds, right? What is your RS hotel? I would aim for something closer to it.
Are you departing early in the AM from second hotel? Or would you enjoy breakfast?
Thon hotels are usually mid-range and have fantastic breakfast included (which can be a money saver too since food is pricey). I had great experience at Thon Bristol.
Scandic is a good brand too.
We stayed at Scandic Parken in Alesund. It was a good choice. I will try them in other locations when we go back.
We stayed at the Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz, great location and fantastic breakfast buffet.
Some forum posters have mentioned Citybox Hotels as a good budget no frills choice.

Have you signed up for a Thon+ rewards membership? You get a discount if you do so. I would suggest you do that and then try again on the price.
Since you have an early flight out, you might consider staying out near the airport, where the prices appear to be much lower. Your RS hotel should hold your luggage for you while you're out and about during the day. Pick it up after dinner.
Thon Hotel and City Box are very expensive for the one date I need.
We were pleased with the Scandic Torget hotel facing the fish market. It was an easy walk with rolling luggage to the light rail Bybanen to airport. Breakfast buffet was additional and did not open til 7 am. But was a very good breakfast.
"very expensive" - well, Norway is very expensive. Pretty the entire country. So, a one-night stay is probably high. We were in Bergen, Oslo, Copenhagen (D). Most expensive places I've ever stayed, and room sizes were astonishing - so tiny. We stayed in City Box Bergen and City Box Oslo - both high-priced. Less than $300, and it was mid-summer.
The next level is over $300 for one night.
Let's reframe the cost. You’re already spending $600+ per night on this trip once airfare is counted. Adding one more day at about $300 plus food is the cheapest day of the whole trip.
A side note: when we did the tour this year many of the flights to the US out of Bergen were ungodly early. The tour only spends one full day in Oslo and I wish we had more time there. So much to see and enjoy! And there are better flight times back to the US. If I was doing our trip again I'd think about taking the train back to Oslo and spend another 1-2 days there. Another option we would have done if we knew about it far enough in advance is the Norway in a Nutshell tour. It has a fjord cruise and scenic /bus/railroad trip that largely duplicates what you'll see on the tour. But Norway it is a beautiful country so seeing it again while there would be nice, and NiN gives you a 2nd shot at good weather. Break NiN up into 2 days, staying in Flam (expensive) or nearby in Aurland.

That's interesting, Bill. Our flight to the U.S. via Keflavik this past July didn't leave until around 3 pm. That was different for me, as usually my flights are at the god-awful hours of 6:30 or 7:30 in the morning.
My KLM flight from Bergen to Amsterdam left about 10:00 AM, with a 3-hour layover that put me back in Seattle that evening (very jet-lagged, to be sure).
