Bergen Hotels: Thon Rosenkrantz vs Clarion Admiral

We're taking a Havila cruise out of Bergen in May. I'm wondering which would be a better place to stay for a few nights: the Thon Rosenkrantz or the Clarion Admiral. The Rosenkrantz is a bit cheaper, so that's appealing. Anyone have any opinions? Or should I consider someplace else?

Thanks in advance.

I can’t speak on the Thon Rosenkrantz but we spent a couple nights at the Clarion Admiral and enjoyed it. We spent a bit extra for a room with a balcony overlooking the water, which was great. Hotel was clean, quiet, and service was good. Bus stop right outside. I seem to recall we picked the Admiral as there were not a lot a bad reviews about noisy bars/nightclubs, which wasn’t the case for others.

My son-in-law and grandson stayed at the Thon Orion in Bergen in July and really liked it a lot. They mentioned seeing the Rosenkrantz and saying that it looked very nice. A lot of folks here stay at the Thon hotels as they are pretty consistently good.

We stayed at the Thon Rosenkrantz 2 summers ago. A Rick Steves tour was also staying here during our visit. During our stay most of Scandinavia was having a heat wave. It is not common for hotels in Norway (and other Scandinavian countries) to have air conditioning. So we had to sleep with windows open which was not pleasant due to noise and light. Some people may not have been bothered by the room temp but we were.

The breakfast was really good at this hotel and that was included in our stay. They did advertise on their site that they have a complimentary meal early in the evening also. However, we learned on arrival that this is not offered during busy/peak season something our RS guidebook highlighted but did not mention the seasonality. Wasn't a big deal to us as but just thought I would mention it. Overall it's an okay stay but if I were to be back in Bergen I would look at other options first.
