Bergen for one day pre-cruise, what to do and cost of taxi from airport to Bryggen

My wife and I will be in Bergen mid August for a cruise. We will be arriving 2 days early and have a full day in Bergen before boarding the Ship the following day. Plan on taking a taxi to the Hotel Thon Orion. what would be the charge? Looking for suggestions for our full day in Bergen. Think that the funicular is a must, other than that? Have reservations for the Cornelius restaurant as that looks like a nice experience and the boat leaves close to our hotel. Bergen wasn't previously on our radar but looks like a wonderful place, we are excited to spend some time there. Thanks to you all for your responses. Happy travels!

We used Bergen’s Bybanen light rail to get from the airport to downtown Bergen. I think it was less than the equivalent of $5.00.

A worthwhile sight is the KODE art museum, which fills a string of four large buildings. Even if you reach Oslo on your cruise, where there’s an entire museum devoted to Edvard Munch (who painted several versions of his “The Scream”), the Munch room at KODE is distinct and very worthwhile. Ask them to point you to the building that has Munch.

We also really enjoyed the guided tour at the Bryggens Museum, which took us through the smallish museum, then outside for a walk through the historic Bryggen district. Nearby is the Theta Museum, a one-room collection that was the secret headquarters of the underground resistance movement against the Nazis in WW II.

Not too far out of Bergen is the Fantoft stave church, which is described in Rick Steves’ guidebook. If you don’t see any other stave church, this one’s an excellent example. It is actually a faithful recreation, as the original church on the site was burned down by an arsonist, but this one’s still interesting. Take Line 1 on the Bybanen Light Rail south to the Paradis stop, and it’s maybe a 10 minute walk from there. You’d actually pass through that stop on your way from the airport.
