Bergen area accommodation

I'm just starting to plan our trip for August/September 2023. We will likely be flying into Bergen from Stockholm and I'm looking for suggestions for an area to stay in for a week or so. Spouse likes to stay in one spot for a week (or longer) and since we are visiting several good-sized cities on this trip, I thought some place somewhat rural, near, but outside Bergen might be enjoyable. I'd prefer to rely on public transportation but realize that we may need to pick up a rental car in Bergen in order to stay outside Bergen. We need an apartment-type of accommodation or similar so that we can prepare meals as desired. Ideally, we'd be in or very near a small town with a few necessities (grocery, coffee shop for spouse,...) close by. A relaxing, peaceful place with great scenery all around is my desire!

Thanks in advance for any ideas and suggestions.

Let me say a few things about Bergen. The weather chsnges drsstically in Sept. so going earlier is better. It is on the far west end of the country where things are very quiet. The people of Bergen are absolutely the most beautiful we have ever seen.

Somewhere near Voss might work. From there you can daytrip in several directions and easily reach both Hardanger fjord and Sogne fjord. We spent two nights there a few years ago and easily took day trips to Voringfossen and Flam. You could also reach Ulvik or Utne from Voss. You can take a short train ride from Voss to Finse. Voss is about two hours from Bergen so you could rent your car at Bergen airport and return it there a week later. It is easy to drive in Norway. Lots of short car ferry rides to cross the fjords.

Howabout Arna? Small town just outside Bergen, but still only 10 minutes by frequent local train from central Bergen.

Voss is also not a bad idea if you want to stay a bit further away, about 1:20 by train from Bergen.
