Our flight to Bergen will arrive a little past midnight in July. I am wondering if anyone is familiar with ground transportation options to the city? We are planning on staying close to the central train station in Bergen and at that time of night I would imagine taxis are the only option - will they be readily available? Can we book in advance?
Many thanks for insights!
I happen to have a guidebook for Norway in front of me. It was published in 2019, so the information isn't particularly up to date. It says the Bybanen (light rail) is the cheapest option. The trip takes 45 minutes. The fare isn't provided in the book, or the hours of operation. The airport Express Coach (Flybussen) is quite a bit more expensive but also a bit faster. The third option would be a taxi. The book recommends prebooking a taxi if you need one for a late-night arrival and notes that the fare will be much higher than usual in the evening and on weekends--"usual" rates for taxis in Norway being eye-wateringly expensive. Maybe one of the public transit services will be running late enough for you.
There's lots on information about transportation in Bergen on the tourist office's website, where you can find links for the schedules you need to make a decision: https://en.visitbergen.com/visitor-information/travel-information/skyss-bus-and-bergen-light-rail-p913973
Why not just stay at an airport hotel that night?

Depending on what day of the week you might be able to catch the tram to central Bergen, in which case that is the option I'd suggest. A single ticket is 40 kr but if you are staying longer in Bergen you might want to consider a pass of some kind instead.
What day of the week are you arriving? This schedule shows the bybanen would be an option on Friday and Saturday nights.

The stop ”Nonneseter” is the closest one to the train station.
