We will be in the Balestrand area for 3 nights but staying at a place in Dragsvik for complicated reasons. Is there any public transportation that is regular or are there taxis and Ubers in that area now? Would like to get into Balestrand for a couple of those days.
Bus 820 connects Dragsvik with Balestrand. Although it's not very frequent. No Uber but there might be a taxi company. It seems like the company still exists, but their website is not working. https://www.1881.no/tlf/balestrand-taxi_100954464S1/
Thank you for above information. There was apparently a car rental agency available in Balestrand before the pandemic recommended in a previous travel book by Rick Steves. There was a web site and I got an a positive answer! I wonder if I should trust this? Balholm Car Rental.
Also, the guide book doesn’t specify the license requirements. Does anyone know if you generally need an international license to drive in Norway or is a valid USA license sufficient?
Why shouldn't you? It certainly seems like the company exists.
You need an IDP to drive in Norway, unless your licence follows the Geneva or Vienna convention.
We rented from Balholm in 2015. They were great. I assume (hope) it's the same folks we used 10 years ago.
Thank you for the information. The car rental company has replied to me and allowed me to book a car. Hopefully it works out for that piece of our trip
