Baggage when flying SAS airline

Dear all,
I will be flying with SAS airline from Rovanieme to Tromso, and then from Bodo to Oslo.
I read SAS website, the check-in baggage size is 158cm linear dimension (L+W+D). I measured my baggage is 162cm (include the wheels part).

Is my baggage ok? to check-in withot to pay for extra baggage/oversize?
Has anyone flying SAS previously with slightly bigger baggage like my case?

thank you

When I flew on SAS last year they were quite lenient on the carry on size. The height of the bag is supposed to be 55cm (21.65”) which SAS rounds up to 22” X40cm x 23cm. . Some passengers seemed to have the slightly larger American-sized carry-ons but no size boxes were used and everyone I saw boarded the flights unhindered..

SAS had a “GoSmart” fare for just $15-$35 more that includes both a checked bag and a carry on which is a great value compared to many other airlines.
Due to its liberal policies regarding carry ons and baggage fees — I think SAS is not going to hassle you over a checked bag that may have overall dimensions that are just 1.5 inches over the officially permitted size. Carry ons need to fit in the overhead bins but checked bags are only limited by the size of the plane’s cargo hold. In August, the airline emerged from a two-year bankruptcy reorganization and now has Air France-KLM the Danish government and an investment group as shareholders. The employees received a 7.5% pay raise so the atmosphere is upbeat at SAS.

I measured my baggage is 162cm (include the wheels part).

Having worked with bags in the past, I find that trying to measure a bag by hand will often times be different than the "official" measurements. Why not look up your bag on the internet and find the metric measurements.

But 4 cm total is 1.5 inches in total. You should be fine. They are only going to measure it if it looks too big. No one can eyeball a 4 cm difference spread between three sides

However, more important is the weight. You are allowed 23 kg (about 50 lbs). They will weigh the bag. Over that weight and you will pay more.

Are you planning to fly from Rovaniemi to Tromsø with SAS? That would mean flying via Copenhagen and probably via Oslo as well if I'm not mistaken, which is quite a detour. I'd suggest the direct coach instead. https://www.eskelisen.fi/en/eskelinen-en/arctic-route/

Regarding the luggage, 162 cm is more than 158 cm. So if they decide to look closer at it you will not get away with it. But you might be lucky.

We flew SAS from Dulles to Copenhagen, Copenhagen to Amsterdam, Brussels to Oslo, Oslo to Copenhagen and Copenhagen to Dulles. In only one instance, (Oslo to Copenhagen) were we asked to measure our bags. My bag is quite small but was thickly packed. I had to rearrange to get it in the box. I was a little irked because others with obviously larger, heavier bags were not called out.
In general, I was happy with SAS. We chose premium economy for the long flights.
