I’m planning a car travel route that includes ferries such as Manheller-Fodnes (route 5), Hella-Dragsvik (route 55) and Oppedal-Lavik (route E39). Do these ferries operate reliably all day, every day, since they are part of the highway road system? I just don’t want a bad surprise and be unable to follow my route.
I was on them a couple of days last year (on a bus, but the bus drives on just as private vehicles do), and yes , they seemed very regular and not like any big deal
In general yes, they are part of the road network, but you should check the schedule as some are frequent and some are less frequent. You will probably also be able to find any deviations from the schedule at https://www.vegvesen.no/trafikk
Thanks for the comments!
Took Hella-Dragsvik (route 55) a couple of days ago.
Very reliable. They do follow the schedule. At the pier 5 mins prior to departure time and you'll be fine

If you are traveling in peak season, there may be a queue of cars that exceeds the capacity of the ferry, so you could end up waiting for the next one. I think some of the ferries allow prebooking, so you may want to check on that possibility.
Thanks! I took the ferries a few weeks ago and everything was simple, straightforward and efficient! After a great trip in Norway I’m back home now.
