We'll be ending our RS trip in Bergen. Instead of flying out of Bergen, perhaps a train ride back to Oslo would be scenic and fun. Any comments?
Definitely take the train it's considered one of the most scenic train journeys in the world.
You can crank the journey up a few notches by doing the Norway in a Nutshell route:

Yes if you read information, it is one of the world’s most scenic rail routes — I am pretty sure Rick discusses it in his Norway guidebook, or if you Google or you will find tons of information and schedules etc.
We took the Norway in a Nutshell trip from Oslo to Bergen, and it was an all day journey. We were on a fast ferry through the fjords on the last leg going west. Our favorite part of the trip was the Flam Railroad that took us down into the fjords, as it was a quite beautiful hour's ride.
You could go either on the N/N trip, or just take the train all the way without the fast ferry ride. By that time, you may have seen all the fjords you want to see anyway.
By the way, we found the people of Bergen very tall, very blonde, incredibly beautiful and very sweet. We really enjoyed our short stay there.
Hi Dave, we ended a Viking ocean cruise in Bergen in February 2019. We stayed an extra night in Bergen then took the train to Oslo. We opted for Komfort class for a few extra dollars (basically you get a comfy seat and unlimited coffee/tea/hot chocolate), and enjoyed the 7 hour trip. There’s a small snack bar on board where you can buy sandwiches. We booked the seats in advance on the NSB site. Oslo was nice. We stayed a few nights at the Thon Opera Hotel which is next door to the train station. PM me if you need any other info.
