Hello,
We (two adults) will be spending 9 days in Balestrand in July. We have a car. We are interested in seeing the towns, fjords and glaciers at a relaxed pace, doing some light to moderate hiking, and at least one boat tour. Does anyone have suggestions and tips on day-trips in this region? I've read the Balestrand, NIN, and More Sites...section in the book. Thank you for your help.
I definitely recommend to use minimum one second base because when staying in Balestrand you will have very long ways of backtracking. Normally a round trip with 1-2 nights per stay will give you the most experience.
Main things to do:
- Gaularfjell
- Fjaerland
- stave church in Vik
- Flåm and Aurlandfjell
This will fill basically two day trips.
Another sensation out of sight: Sognefjord reaches a depth of over 1,000 metres between Balestrand and Vangsnes.
Thank you!
There are also wonderful hiking trails in the hills above Balestrand - when you get up there, the view is to die for !
The highlight of our trip to Norway in 2015 was hiking the Nigardsbreen Glacier. It would be a long day from trip from Balestrand, 2+ hours each way.
