8 days with kids itinerary for Norway

We have 10 days to spend in Norway with our 8 and 9 year olds. Flying from US to Oslo. Our tentative plan is as follows by car but wondering if it's way too much driving and if so, need suggestions on modifying...The 3 priorities are 1) glacier hike suitable for kids 2) Wonderful fjord tour (on a boat larger than a rib boat) and 3) being able to walk behind Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall

Day 1 and 2 - Oslo
Day 3 Drive to Flam. Spend night
Day 4 car ferry from Gudvanger to Kaupanger. Spend 2 nights in cabin in Vesterland.
Day 6 - drive to Jostedal for family-friendly Icetroll Glacier boat ride and hike and drive to Balestrand to spend night
Day 7 - Spend day in Balestrand
Day 8 - Ferry to Bergen
Day 9 - Fjord tour from Bergen. Must have option to walk behind Steinsdalsfossen waterfall (the one request the kids have).
Day 10 - fly from Bergen

Would love some input!

I did a similar trip last year, but without kids and without a car.

On day 7, I would recommend driving to Likhollefossen and back. You and the kids will all enjoy the scenery and the bridge over the waterfall. (The road is only open seasonally, so this is assuming you're going late spring or summer.)

I don't believe there is a car ferry from Balestrand to Bergen. I think you need to take a car ferry to cross back to the south side of Sognefjord and then drive to Bergen. If I'm wrong about this, I hope you or someone can correct me. (Unless you have plans to drop your car in Balestrand.)

The Kviknes Hotel in Balestrand is legendary and huge. I recommend the smaller, family run Balestrand Hotel. They are very friendly, have a great breakfast, and the rooms with balconies overlooking the fjord are delightful. Walk over to the Kviknes Hotel for their buffet dinner.

Many options for travel in Norway without a private car. The Norwegian Rail system is pretty good in the populated south. The bus/coach system is more fragmented, but it is possible to get around Norway by bus:

and/or boat:

As a worst case, I have been able to complete travel to places in the bush by requesting car service pickups when the bus service is not running. (During the winter, bus service some mountain areas is scheduled for weekend holiday visitors).

Day 3 Drive to Flam. Spend night: NSB rail Oslo to Mydral then Flam train to Flam is part of the Norway in a Nutshell tour.

Day 4 car ferry from Gudvanger: Ferry fare for walk on passengers is far cheaper than a car. Again, part of the Nutshell tour.

PS A car in Oslo is a not advantageous. Oslo transit is very good. http://www.visitoslo.com/en/transport/in-oslo/
And Bergen is so small walking is not a problem.
