6 Hour Layover - Enough time to tour?

Hello All: We have an upcoming trip to Switzerland that involves a 6 hour layover in Oslo on our journey over from the United States. Is that enough time to leave the airport and explore a bit and make it back in time for our next flight? If so, how long should we anticipate taking to get through security once we arrive back at the airport? We arrive at ~8:40 AM and our next flight is at 3 PM. We are a family of 5. Thank you for any and all suggestions!

There is an express train from the airport to the city center that takes about 25 minutes one way. You will have to do the time math to make that decision. No clue what security will be like on any given day. Oslo is spread out and a walk from the train station to the Vigelandspark for example is about 45 minutes. If it were me, I would not go into the city even though a layover in the airport is boring.

Assuming your arriving flight is on time, you'd need to account for the time for: going through immigration, stashing your bags, figuring out transit, getting to city center, going the places you want to see, and then getting back to airport to fetch bags and go back through security to your onward flight. For myself 6 hours isn't quite enough time even if everything went perfectly, and especially not while jet lagged (and I don't have children to consider). I'd look into an airport lounge or possibly a hotel with a daily rate to freshen up and then head on to your next destination.

IMO that's not enough time to go into Oslo ( unless you just want to see the area around the Opera House).

I suggest you get out of the terminal and take a walk around the neighborhood.
