Hi! My husband and I are arriving in Oslo July 7 and departing July 10, 2025. I’ve read the Oslo Pass is worth purchasing if your stay is 3 days. I was wondering your opinion on it. We are considering Norway in a Nutshell from Oslo to Bergen. I would love some insight on that trip. We love HOHO buses so plan on spending a day doing that. If we purchase the Oslo Pass and have time, I’ve considered island hopping via ferry. From Oslo we are taking a train to meet up with a friend, who lives in Trondheim. He was an exchange student my parents had when I was a kid. From there we are relying on he and his wife to take over. I would appreciate any suggestions you have. My husband did purchase your book and I have been reading it.
Between Oslo and Trondheim some travelers recommend Røros and Lillehammer, also Jotunheimen (home of the Nordic giants) and Valdres if you like mountain and partly wooden areas.
Using a HoHo bus the first day is imo a good idea. I used it and was happy with it. No experience with the pass.
The forum is full of Norway in Nutshell (NiN) experiences. Just search and read a little bit. If you decide to do this you can try to get an overnight cabin on Hurtigruten or Havila ship from Bergen to Trondheim. This way you would also see the Geirangerfjord without additional traveling (except ship MS Midnatsol).
If no place is available, I recommend to travel b train to Andalsnes and get a bus to Geiranger - but better align that with you partal hosts - maybe they wanted to do this with you.
Have a good journey.
