1st time solo traveler to Norway

Hello everyone,

I am planning my first trip to Norway the end of May or May into the beginning of June. I am very interested in hiking a lot during this trip, and am afraid going to the Lofoten Islands may be too early. Can anyone give me some quick tips to get me started in planning? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum——May might be a bit early for hiking in the Lofoten Islands. On average, high temps hit 48 degrees with lows of 40 degrees. It rains 11 days during the month on average. There still is a lot of snow on the ground in the Lofoten mountains and it can even snow during May.
The travel season in Norway really begins in late June and runs through August and early September.

It would be helpful if you told us a bit more about what you're looking for. But the best source for hiking in Norway is the Norwegian Tourist Association, www.dnt.no

A very good starting point for planning is this hiking overview page of Visit Norway. Link to DNT was posted already.

Also practical hiking tips.

I understand your concerns about weather. End of May 2023 I had harsh weather in Tromsø. Snowstorm with horizontal flying snow and around 0° C. So, always check the weather forecast on https://www.yr.no/en which is reliable 24-48 hrs before.

Do not forget having health and rescue flight insurance.

Good luck and take care.
