Zuiderzee museum?

Has anyone here been to the Zuiderzee open air museum at Enkhuizen and be able to give me some guidance, please?

Context: I’m going to be in the Netherlands next week on a very low-key trip after recovery from surgery/chemo.

Staying in Utrecht for part of it and was thinking of jumping on a train to Hoorn and/or Enkhuizen, just to see some small seafaring towns that I haven’t seen before (I go to NL quite a lot).

I was wondering if the Zuiderzee museum would suit a 60-something woman travelling alone, who is unsure of her fitness and energy levels. I do really like these kind of places usually although I don’t have like people pretending to be from the olden days talking to me. I’m okay if I can ignore them (I was once mistaken for a historical re-enactor while wearing my normal clothes at Colonial Williamsburg, but that’s another story.)

I guess my main question is: is it the kind of place that will exhaust me? Is there lots of walking over a wide area with no shelter? Or are there lots of places to sit down/shady areas? It’s going to be hot next week. Will it be full of kids and families in late June or are they still at school?

I may be talking myself out of it and putting it on my list for a future visit. Would value opinions if you’ve been there. It’s really tricky because I’m used to being superfit and - well, I’m not right now.

Questions like this are always difficult to answer, because we don’t know you and your fitness level, but I’ll give it a try.
The Zuiderzeemuseum consists of 2 parts, an outdoor part and an indoor part. The outdoor part is basically a “normal “ historical village, but with the added bonus that you’re allowed to enter every house and building. Like in other villages there are benches that you can sit on and there are some trees for shade. I suggest you to look up photos to get a better idea.
The indoor part of the museum is home to the boat and ship collection of the museum.
The school holidays in the Netherlands haven’t started yet, but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any kids. This time of year a lot of schools organize school trips and an educational attraction like the Zuiderzeemuseum is a popular destination.

Thank you. That’s really helpful. But I’ve also just checked weather forecast and that has given me my answer. I think I will be doing very little except air conditioned museums and sitting under umbrellas at cafes!

Next time maybe. I appreciate your help.

Good plan to beat the heat.
My family enjoyed the Zuiderzee musuem for a few hours, but wasn't anyone's major highlight, and was definitely geared more towards my kids. We were just driving by it on our way to stay in Hoorn...which if you were to jump on a train just to explore another town, i would definitely recommend. Loved the atmosphere in Hoorn, and enjoyed the patios on the main square a lot.

All the best,

Dutch_traveler, I'm just curious how often is Zuiderzee Museum's forge fired up and a smith working?

Golden Girl, I sent you a message on WhatsApp, but just in case that doesn't go through (I just changed phones and WA is not cooperating), I hope you are doing okay. I'm sorry to hear about your surgery and chemo. That sucks. But I am glad that you are getting to travel and can hopefully enjoy the change in scenery and relax some.

Chris, that’s helpful. If the temperatures break tomorrow I might head to Hoorn.

Really having to structure the trip around the heat and plan to come back to the Netherlands another time. It’s 6.15am at the moment so I’m going for a sightseeing mooch around Utrecht, where I am currently, before the temperatures go crazy later today!

Mardee, thank you. I’ve WhatsApped you
