hey hey all
bbc.com/ picturesque dutch village set to charge tourists entry fee
found this article and had to read it, saw this coming, like many other places. cities, villages charging fees nowdays. with millions of tourists traveling and wanting to see this place.
so glad i've been twice several years ago on private tours and not crowded then. lots of changes everywhere with tourists wanting to see the same places i've noticed so much on the forums, wanting to go to uncrowded places. it seems like no more low seasons anymore, busy all year
anybody traveling will need to add in these costs, reservations with time/day stamped needing to be booked months ahead, since we've read many can't get reservations and are upset. so happy to have seen many people, places, & things when i could just walk in
enjoy and have fun

I don’t know what the BBC wrote, since there is no link to the article, but there is still a lot that’s unknown about the entry fee. Back in May this year, the city council voted to implement an entry fee of €17,50 for Zaanse Schans, starting in the high season of 2026. The exact starting date isn’t yet announced. It’s probably around Easter. So until February/ March 2026, tourists can still visit Zaanse Schans free of charge.

A visit to Zaanse Schans is to my opinion only worth if you can go inside the working windmills and the musea. For this you need anyway a ticket, with €29,50 not directly a bargain. So for those who want to se everything it won’t make a difference. It’s more to discourage those who want just walking around to see the mills and historic buildings from the outside for free. They have to pay this entrance fee of €17,50 in the future, the local government hopes to reduce the crowds this way.
If it’s going to work, future will tell.
