Work trip in Amsterdam - Looking for recommendations to travel outside of Amsterdam

I have a 2nd work trip to Amsterdam with the ability to extend it a couple days to take advantage of the trip. I could do some day trips or perhaps take a trip to Germany, Brussels, or maybe even France. I have not been to any of those countries. My hope is to fly into Amsterdam for work and then fly home from another airport. I could also just do day trips in the Netherlands. Looking for recommendations here? Germany looks close? Paris looks doable is it work it to take train there? Is Brussels great?

Since you say you can extend your work trip to Amsterdam for "a couple days" it makes sense to just take day trips in the Netherlands or spend a couple of nights in Brussels (in Belgium) and then fly out of that airport. Except for Cologne which also has an airport other worthwhile destinations in Germany are too far to travel to from Amsterdam for just a couple of days

Amsterdam is good for a week of touristing, and it is highly suitable for daytrips (sleeping in Amsterdam) to a bunch of interesting cities from Den Haag to Amersfoort (all in the Netherlands.) "Couple of Days" needs to be defined. Personal travel style makes a big difference, but I like to stay a minimum of three nights in a city, and four nights in a major-city-of-the world.

You might reflect on the question of whether your job is going to bring you to other interesting places like Paris or Berlin, or if you're only going to go to places with a production plant or research lab (!) There are fast trains, but it really takes most of a day to check out of a hotel, find the station, train to another country, find the hotel, check-in, find a restaurant, and start touring.
