Windmills

We will be in Amsterdam in May. I am looking for the best photographic opportunities regarding windmills. I'm sure that a day trip will be in order, so the question is " where "?

The classic windmill site is Kinderdijk. Best reached from Rotterdam by the Waterbus river ferry, leaving from the Erasmus bridge.
Another good windmill location is Schermerhorn, with an original trio from around 1633 and another two a few minutes' walk to the north. Best reached from Alkmaar with an hourly bus (use this public transport planner for schedule.)

PS. The Zaansche Schans is an open-air museum and can be very crowded for its proximity to Amsterdam. The windmills of Kinderdijk and Schermerhorn are in their original position and in an open landscape. Have luck with the weather!

The best place to visit is Kinderdijk, a UNESCO site. Nineteen windmills are in place where they worked to create polder. Take the train from Amsterdam to Rotterdam, get on Tram 7 right outside the modern and impressive train station, and go to the last stop which is where you'll get a waterbus to Kinderdijk. It is a wonderful experience! There are nice walking paths along the canals . There is also the option of taking a boat past the windmills but it is not long walk .
There are a few windmills at Zaansze Schans, not far from Amsterdam, moved there along with other historic buildings. Nice, but nothing to equal Kindedijk.

In addition to the already mentioned places, there are a number on windmills in Zaandam.
