Which Citizen M?

We are presently planning a 5 day visit to Amsterdam around October 21-26. There are two Citizen M hotels in the city (and one by the airport which we are not considering) : one is Citizen M Amstel, and the other is Citizen M Amsterdam South in the Zuidas business district. It is our first visit to Amsterdam and we will be doing normal touristy things.
Any suggestions?

I’d go for the Amstel hotel, the other one is pretty far away from the centre. The Amstel hotel is near the conjunction of several tram and bus routes so you should be able to get to just about anywhere in Amsterdam. Make sure you understand the transport system, get maps or the app and you’ll have a great time.

Is there a specific reason you’re only looking at CitizenM? Is it a points thing? I ask because neither CitizenM Amstel nor CitizenM South are conveniently located for a first time visitor to Amsterdam. There might be better options available if you give us a bit more detail.

I’m sorry, but without any information about your budget, preferences, when you’ll be here etc etc I’m not at all comfortable giving hotel recommendations. The only thing that I can say is that, in general, the area around the major museums is the best area to stay for first time visitors to Amsterdam. From there you can easily walk to the sights that most first time visitors would like to see.

We stayed at the Citizen M Amstel last October because we are huge fans of the brand. The room and hotel were as expected. We traveled from Amsterdam to Belgium, then France, then back up to Amsterdam. For the last leg of the trip, we opted for another hotel on the other side of the Amstel (The Clayton). We liked the vibe and walkability of that neighborhood a bit better. So if you like the CitizenM brand, then you'll like the CitizenM Amstel. If you want to be more in the center of things, you might want to pick a different neighborhood.

Great suggestions, thank you very much. I checked out the Clayton and it is, as you said, in an excellent location. But yes, we are also fans of the Citizen M and it has been while since we've stayed in one (Glasgow in 2015) so we are looking forward to using Citizen M again. The trip is shaping up nicely- we have a guide for the Rijksmuseum, a canal boat tour with Captain Jack- as recommended- and ticket for the Van Gogh Museum (which must sell our astonishingly fast- we wanted an early start anyway, but the midday was entirely booked- this on a Wednesday three months from now. Wow.
