Where to stay in North Holland

My husband and I are planning some travel in the Netherlands in July. We already have accommodations for the beginning of our trip in Delft, and for the end in Amsterdam. We're looking for someplace a bit different to spend the two nights in between -- perhaps somewhere from which we can have a nice day's scenic drive.

We thought of Haarlem, but because we'll have a car, and parking is so tight, we find that our options are limited (We'll turn in the car when we get to Amsterdam, so that's not an issue there). Any suggestions for handling parking in Haarlem, or a "don't miss" hotel there that has on-site parking?

We're also considering Volendam. And we're open to other options, if you have a great suggestion. We're open to both hotel and airbnb. But we'd like it to be in or nearby a town, as we'll be relying on restaurants for our meals.

Thanks in advance!

For the really scenic North Holland you must go north of Haarlem. The area between Zaandam, Alkmaar, Hoorn and Purmerend is the picture postcard of the endless green of the 17th-century land reclamations. You'll love the windmills of Schermerhorn (here for some pictures) and villages like De Rijp (here the Wikipedia page).
Volendam with all those day-trippers from Amsterdam wouldn't be my first choice. Try Hoorn, Enkhuizen (my favourite) or Medemblik, all well geared to tourism, but in a more pleasant way. Booking.com (or a similar service) will tell you about parking facilities.

Dear Tonfromleiden
Thank you for your suggestion. We have looked into Enkhuizen and find that it's a perfect match for us! I appreciate that you took the time to write!
