Hello,
I'm flying to Amsterdam in late August, arriving a couple days before leaving on a cruise. I'd like to book a hotel from which it would be easy to get to the dock; would love it if it were also in a fairly pleasant area for walking/exploring/enjoying the city. Any suggestions as to which area to look for in lists of hotels available? Thanks very much.
There is a modern highrise Moevenpick Hotel right at the Cruise Port. A short walk over the pedestrian bridge gets you to the No 26 Tram stop to get to the train station. The ultra modern Muziekgebouw concert hall is next door.
Otherwise, stay anywhere in the old city and get a cab (or the No 26 Tram) to the dock.
Thanks very much, Sam.
I don't care for the area around Centraal Station, which is your transit point for the tram. That said, the Movenpick is a good hotel ( albeit with a glass door to the bathroom) although its rates seemed very variable. It is interesting to watch the boats come and go if you are on that side of the hotel. I would ( and have often ) stay elsewhere in the city, less crowded and more scenic, then take a taxi to the station when you need to leave.
We used to stay at the Hestia every time, the Owl was next door and other hotels down the quiet street- sort of behind the Marriott near Vondel park and the Leidesplein, and walking distance to the Rijksmuseum and the VanGogh. Very convenient for our needs and trams nearby.
