When would you visit Amsterdam?

We will be going to the Netherlands this spring and have two time frames to choose from: April 12 – 23 or May 3 – 14, which would you choose? We chose these dates to stay away from the crowds associated with Easter weekend and Kings Day, but still be there when Keukenhof is open.

We will base in Amsterdam and then do day trips to Keukenhof, Delft, Enkhuizen for the Zuiderzee museum and possibly Arnhem for the open air museum. We’ve been to Amsterdam before in early November, so would like to like to see the city “greener”. I’ve read that there’s less rain in April, but obviously the trees would be more leafed out in May.

Any first had knowledge about Amsterdam in these time periods would be greatly appreciated!!

I've been in the Netherlands in May and although Keukenhof was open during my time there, I did not bother going as the winter that year had been particularly cold (as was the Spring) so the word from the locals was that Keukenhof was going to be a bit of a let-down. When I was in Amsterdam that May, it also rained fairly consistently on a daily basis which made it harder to plan for outdoor activities. Weather will always be a crap shoot. Pick whichever time frame is more convenient to your schedule and try to be flexible with your schedule so you can take advantage of whatever days are sunnier so you can do the outdoor activities you hope to accomplish while there.

Not much difference on rainfall between both periods. It is just a matter of luck, you might get nice spring weather or a week of relentless North Sea-pushed rain.
