Hello,
We are a couple traveling to Amsterdam for the first time in August. With kids ages 8,10,11. Any recommendations would be so appreciated
My first thought is avoid the Red Light District if you don't want them catching the scent of marijuana smoke and wondering what is up with the women they may see standing in the windows.
But I you could just Google your question and come up with something like this list

Why did you choose Amsterdam, and what kinds of things do you like to do?
RE two of the most popular sites: I would think kids would like the Van Gogh museum, but the Anne Frank house can be intense. I sobbed--and I was in my 20s.
Agree with above comment--there are tons of great blog posts devoted to this to give you great ideas.
Look at localbus.nl. They have 3 different itineraries for places outside of Amsterdam. If you are there on a Wednesday, take the bus which includes Edam. Their cheese market is in the morning. You go at your own pace and it is really cheap, about 15€ pp.
Also, the Dutch resistance museum has a great exhibition for children about WWII. The zoo is nearby. Also, the maritime museum has a replica ship you can board and look around.
We didn’t make it to the science center, but check out their website for children friendly experiences.
Rent bikes and bike around Volendam Park.
