When you get that far north (look at a map) Sep will be warmer than Oct and a big difference will be the length of the day. Days start getting fairly short. We have been in Amsterdam in Oct and it was fairly cool with overcast days. As you move further south it gets warmer. Italy is great in October.
Thanks, Frank.
Initially, i plan to go in 2nd week of Oct, end at end of Oct/ 1st week of Nov. I worry we might get more rain and of course temp is cooler in Oct vs Sept. I think we will probably go in Sept, warmer weather, less cloth to pack.
It is impossible to tell you how the weather will be in NL in September or October, or any other month. We can tell you the average temperature, but not the actual.
Last year the temperature in September and October was during the day mostly between 13 and 20 degrees (with a peak at 24 degrees). At night the coldest was below 5 degrees. October was a bit warmer than usual and September a bit colder. In 2016 October was way colder, even with some ground frost at night. But september 2016 was exceptionally warm, with some days temperatures above 30 degrees.
Rain in september: the average is 78mm in 52 hours, but again it is just an average. Last year 121mm of rain in 76 hours. October is about the same. And rain doesnt mean it rains everywhere, just as a dry spell doesnt mean it is dry everywhere :(
just take a look at the stats from the weather bureau:

But indeed days will be shorter in October. At the beginning of September there will be about 13 and a half hours of day light, At the end of september it is down to 11 and a half hours and at the end of October only 9 and a half hours of day light are left in NL.
