Wall socket adaptor plugs

Apparently Amsterdam, and presumably the Netherlands in general, have 2 kinds of wall sockets, as illustrated in Lonely Planet's Pocket Amsterdam, page 176. One (let's say type 1) is the plain, recessed circle with two round prongs inside, the other (type 2) is a recessed, modified "circle" with flattened sides, small additional recesses on the (flat) sides, and small flanges top and bottom. RS says (ETTBD, page 84) that the continental European 2-pronged adaptor and the UK-type adaptor between them "fit virtually all outlets," which suggests that the 2-pronged adaptor will work in type 2 sockets. Can anyone verify that 2-pronged adaptors work in type 2 sockets?

Thank you

Your Type 1 is called a Type C or europlug.
Your Type 2 is called a a Type F or schuko plug.

Type 1 / C will fit a Type 2 / F outlet.
The reverse won't work.

Thank you, Ed. Does this mean that a 2-pronged travel adaptor will work in both sockets?

I can't go any further. What I said is accurate.

There are all kinds of plugs with two prongs all over the world and many are different. Post a picture link of what you're talking about and we can resolve the question.

Ed, I never question your information, sorry if I gave that impression. My question is, will a 2-pronged travel adaptor of the sort RS sells under the name "European Electrical Adapter" in his online shop plug into a Type F outlet in the Netherlands? Unfortunately I don't know how to post pictures here, but there is a picture of the adaptor in the RS online shop. Thanks
