Vlissingen is a stop on our cruise in August. Any recommendations on where to go less than one hour from the port? Any recommendations on tour companies or guides? Thank-you
Where will the ship dock?
From Vlissingen is only a short train ride (trains run every half hour) to Middelburg, which is a nice old town with some interesting sights.
jksmd1 - Welcome to the forum. Suppose we talk about a sea cruise (Seven Seas Navigator?) as river cruise ships dock at Middelburg too. Sea cruise ships dock at Buitenhaven in Vlissingen and an easy walk from the railway station there. After visiting Middelburg you can take a bus (some 20 min. from the railway station) to Veere, certainly worth visiting too.
Worth to see in Middelburg is the main square with it’s gothic style former townhall. The huge medieval abbey with the “Lange Jan” belltower you can climb for a nice panoramic view. Further Dam, alley Kuiperspoort and the the streets around the Oostkerk (car free Koepoortstraat and Spanjaardstraat are picture perfect). Veere is small, but perfect for a stroll.
Vlissingen is lesser attractive, however the Boulevard is a good place for spotting sea going ships passing by very close. The old harbour and adjacent Bellamypark are vere nice and very lively. The historic streets around Sint Jacobskerk are worth a stroll too. De Gevangentoren a good place for a drink.
Btw will Zeebrugge in Belgium a port of call too?
Thank-you for your quick replies. We will be on the Navigator. Will plan on visiting Middleburg.
