We are on the RS Belgium & Holland Tour. On our last full day we tour the Rijksmuseum in the morning as a group, but it is suggested if we want to see the Van Gogh museum, that we individually book the timed entrance for the Van Gogh museum for later that day, but before our group dinner. Has anyone taken the tour? I'm trying to figure out what time to book our Van Gogh tickets for that day, as I'm not sure how much time we spend at the Rijksmuseum.
Might be something to talk to the RS office about. It probably depends if they do a short guided tour, then allow you to roam, or a longer guided tour, or just get you in, and you are on your own.
The Van Gogh museum is nearby, only a 5-10 minute walk. Sounds like "after lunch" would be safe, but you might skip lunch and move it up a bit.
Thanks Paul! At your suggestion I did reach out to the RS office. They never cease to amaze me in how helpful and personable they are.
I am a big Van Gough fan after my visit to the Rijksmuseum. I was very disappointed in the Van Gough museum. They yelled at me for taking pictures. The staff is rude. Spend your time in the Rijks, it is much better.
I've done the Belgium and Holland tour and did the Van Gogh after the Rijks. I think I scheduled it for 2P so I could grab something quick to eat. If the day is nice and you just want something light there is a big Albert Heijn grocery store under the Museum Plein. You enter in a small building just past the Van Gogh Museum and go downstairs for the grocery store. You can head back out to the MuseumPlein to eat.
I love the Van Gogh Museum. I do recommend you start on the top floor and work your way down. That top floor is my favorite and has his best works.
Do get your tickets ahead. There is no ticket office on site anymore so have them on your phones. This museum does sell out so since you've got a specific time frame on a specific day...get them as soon as ticketing for your time frame opens.
Thank you everyone for your good suggestions.
We visited Amsterdam for a week in August 2022. We spent over three hours in the Rijksmuseum and didn't finish until almost 1 PM.
I am in my mid-70s and as a rule can only handle about three hours a day doing museums. We decided to come back the next day and do the Van Gogh museum, where we spent another three hours. We didn't take any tours, but did the entirety of both museums.
You don't need to take a tour.
