My wife and I are planning on going to Keukenhof on May 12th to see the tulip fields. Something that has been on our bucket list for a while! First, will this be too late to see them? Second, how does everyone recommend we get there? We will not have a car and will be staying in Amsterdam proper.
May 12th is very late to see the flowers but even so, you will still be able to enjoy the gardens. The tulips (and other flowers) are very strategically planted so that there are continuous blooms throughout the time they remain open. The latest bloomers are what you will see flowering.
Getting there is super easy. From wherever you are stating, take the train to Schiphol and transfer to one of the Keukenhof tour busses.
Kings day is April 27th. Hopefully you will be able to participate.
The Keukenhof closes for the season on May 14. By May 12 there will still be some flowers in the park, but it will definitely be past its prime. Probably at around 60-70% left.
The flowers in the flower fields that surround the Keukenhof will most definitely be gone by then. The flowers are usually cut off in the first week of May.
