I'm traveling by train to Oss where I would like to catch a cab to travel in this area of the country to see my ancestral home towns (Heesch, Udon, Maasbommel, etc.).
Is it possible to hire a cab at the train station for the afternoon to travel to these various towns? Is there a smarter way to do this? I could rent a car, but then I wouldn't have the advantage of a local's take on this part of the country.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!
Bill.
If you can get a taxi for a whole afternoon, which I doubt, it will cost you. Much better to rent a car.
Alternatively you can try the bus services in the region, using the public transport planner 9292.
Topotijdreis has a zoomable historical topographic map of the Netherlands. Use the slide on the left-hand side to get an impression of the region in the times your ancestors emigrated.
Thanks Ton, for the link to the topographic site!
That map is really good. I love to look back at the Zuiderzee project and other works for example.
It is one of my favourite maps, especially for showing the tremendous infrastructural works which have made the country into what it is today.
