Traveling to Amsterdam Sustainably and Solo!

Hi all! I am currently planning on traveling to Amsterdam this summer solo. I try to be aware of my environmental impact, and I recently came across an article about ways to travel while also being cautious of my own carbon footprint. I was wondering if anyone had any other tips not listed in the article they'd like to share with me! I've been trying to get help from a few different places but haven't received any good tips yet. I'm hoping I've finally found a place that can guide my trip in the right direction! Thanks!

The article I read was: https://www.buzzfeed.com/ecotravel/how-can-i-make-traveling-more-eco-friendly-f6nfadkj4r

All tips are appreciated! Thanks!

This is a good article. I would add a couple of ideas, which most people who are already concerned about the environment are doing like bring a refillable water bottle and reusable utensils, wear your clothes several times before washing them and walk or bike when you can. Amsterdam is a great walking/biking town.

However, I work at a hotel and putting up the DND and refusing housekeeping can cause a housekeeper to lose hours and pay, which most of them can not afford to do. Instead request pick up service rather than full service, which means they just make the bed rather than change the linens and towels.

Thank you Trixie! I didn't even know pick up service was something hotels offered! I will for sure be doing that from now on!

Great tip about the pick up service. We do this but never knew the proper term.

Thanks Nick! I know traveling across the Atlantic is not, and will never be good for the environment. I am planning on staying for a while and hopefully traveling more in Europe during my month-long trip. Your tips will definitely come in handy!

Reduce the use of the disposable plastics. Bring your own cutlery for street food may help.

Maximise recycling. I do note that lodgings don't necessarily provide recycling boxes like in a local home. It takes extra effort to do recycling while you are travelling.
