Hotel wants to charge me 125 Euros to travel from Amsterdam to Schiphol Airport on a Saturday morning at 6:00 a.m. (for 9:15 a.m flight). I don't mind paying extra for the security of getting to airport on time, but Rick's guidebook's price wasn't as high. Is this because book not updated since 2018, or do I really need to find a cheaper taxi? Also, do we agree getting there three hours before flight best bet?
Why would you need your hotel to book you a taxi? Why not just book one yourself? A taxi from central Amsterdam to Schiphol should only be €47,50
Book for instance via https://www.tcataxi.nl/taxi-amsterdam-schiphol/
How far in advance you should aim to be at the airport depends on where your flying to, whether or not you have luggage to drop off etc etc.
That seems high. What part of Amsterdam is your hotel in? Would seem like a better idea to just order your own taxi. Have a look here for links to taxi companies: https://www.amsterdamsights.com/about/taxi.html#:~:text=Depending%20on%20the%20traffic%2C%20a,from%20the%20airport%20are%20metered.
You could also consider using Uber. We used them to get from our hotel in Amsterdam to Schiphol at about 6am and it was seamless and about 40-something Euros if I recall correctly.
Thank you everybody for your quick and helpful replies! Will go ahead and try to book taxi myself. Appreciate the encouragement.
I’ll just add I took a taxi from Schiphol into the Museumplein area on Monday. I think the fare was 48.50€. I was tired of being in a crowded situation so it worked for me. The ride was only about 20 mins.
I’m glad you are booking your own. I suspect the hotel was ordering a private driver.
My hotel will get me to the airport for €60. I can get it done with a self prearranged service for €38. The taxi or Uber may even be cheaper. Notwithstanding, rarely have I dealt with establishments that charge a fee or markup for arranging transportation.
Just arrived in AMS yesterday. We had a complimentary taxi in. Driver told us it will be 40EUR for our return trip from museum quarter area to Schipol.
for me, if I have a morning flight I'll forgo sleeping in the city and stay at the airport. Easy enough to transfer to an airport hotel after dinner, and then you wake up a bit later and either walk to the terminal or a free and regular airport shuttle.
On our coming summer trip, a room night at the Hyatt Place Schipol Airport was just 3.5k points, which transferred from Chase point is literally almost free. My wife had to talk me off the ledge of staying at the airport for our entire trip :)
Schipol reports that they are better staffed now, and the nightmare days of 5 hours lines are a thing of the past, and that this summer will be smooth sailing. Reports.
If me I'd be there at 6:45am, but we all have different tolerance for risk.
