Beloved spouse and I are spending a few days in Amsterdam before continuing on to Belgium and Norway. We can probably figure this out; but, we always get great advice from all of you.
Arriving Schiphol, staying in a “Tiny House” in Rijsenhout. How should we travel to “Tiny House?”
On subsequent days we need to travel from “Tiny House” to Museumplein and the central train station. Recommendations?
We have access to e-bikes for the trip to Museumplein. Is this safe? Wise?
Thanks for all your help.
Looks like you are less than 10k from Schipol. I would grab a taxi.
For the rest of your question I suggesst you spend some time on Google Maps with the exact address of your Tiny House. You can look a bike vs bus/tram/metro routes. Once in the city center I think it easer to walk and use public transit, rather than bike.
As for safe and wise, there are 1.3 bikes per capita in The Netherlands. So they think it both safe and wise. I take buses and trams because I don't bike often and don't know all their rules and norms.
Oh dear. I hope that this tiny house is very well insulated, because Rijsenhout is located directly underneath the flight path of 2 of the runways of Schiphol Airport. They alternate between the 5 different runways, but there will be long periods of time where there will be a departing plane flying over your heads at a low altitude every 2 minutes. I would definitely recommend to bring earplugs.
As far as getting to Amsterdam from Rijsenhout, I second the suggestion of Jkh to familiarize yourself with Google Maps. It’s a great way of learning how to get from A to B by various ways of transportation.
As far as whether or not it’s safe and wise to use e-bikes to go from Rijsenhout to central Amsterdam, it depends entirely on how well you can bike and whether or not you’ve ridden on an e-bike before. People tend to underestimate how easily it is to reach a high speed on an e-bike. If you’ve never ridden an e-bike in an unfamiliar densely populated urban area before, I wouldn’t start doing that in Amsterdam. I would first go to Amsterdam by public transport and then decide if you feel comfortable biking there.
Beloved spouse is responsible for lodgings. She has done a great job in the past. Excellent ratings. No comments re: airport noise. I have high hopes.
I’ve always been intrigued by the “Tiny House” culture. It’ll be an experience.
