We are arriving in Amsterdam from a cruise on May 11 th. We need to be in a Rome on May 15 th for a bus tour. We would like to spend some time in Switzerland. Any suggestions on transportation?
Fly to Zurich or Basel or Geneva, spend some time in Switzerland (you got to specify where you want to go but those are the 3 airports that you can fly to from Amsterdam); then take the long train ride or fly to Rome from there.
You might be trying to cram too much in.
With that short amount of time, I'd fly to Zurich or Bern and take a train to Luzern and spend the 3/4 days there
Austria's Alps are much more accessible when going from Amsterdam to Northern Italy. I'd be going thru Munich to Innsbruck and then through the Brenner Pass down into Italy. You could fly to Munich and take the train down from there as Tirol and Northern Italy are breathtakingly beautiful. Or, you could just fly all the way to Rome and spend the days in that great city.
Because even Luzerne is such a diversion from a very long route, I'm inclined to suggest the Italian lakes and mountains as an alternative. Otherswise, Luzerne and or a lake resort like Weggis is a good taste but only a taste of Switzerland.
