transiting thru Schiphol

Hi - thx in advance for your input!

Just trying to plan for a few thing for an upcoming flight, so thought we would reach to other travel peeps in the know :)

we are travelling from Calgary to Dubrovnik and will have carry on only -

We have one ticket to YYC to AMS, then 4.5 hrs after arrival, we leave on another ticket from AMS to DBV (with a transit thru Munich).

Can someone outline what we can expect upon landing at AMS -

So we arrive from non-Schengen country (AMS) - wondering since the next lege we are flying from AMS to MUN first would we be considered flying Schengen to Schengen (transiting thru Munich) countries even tho our final destination that day is Croatia (non-Schengen) - does that mean stay in same area of AMS airport?

Am thinking we might have to go thru passport control since we are arriving from non-Schengen?

But thinking we won't have to go thru security since in AMS since our first connection enroute to DBV is in Munich/ another Schengen country?

Any other things we should be aware of?

(and then, when we land in Munich, is there anything special we might need to do transiting thru from a AMS which is Schengen to DBV non-Schengen)?

Thanks!!

ab4736 - you say you are traveling on separate tickets. Are you traveling with checked luggage?
Not sure I understand your note, but if you have separate tickets and checked bags, your checked bags would have to be claimed in Amsterdam as that would be your final destination on Ticket #1. That changes everything about connecting in AMS.

I hope you're traveling carry-on only! If so, you'll simply go through passport control. moving from the Non-Schengen terminal to the Schengen terminal. Then head for your gate. YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE YOUR NEXT FLIGHT Boarding passes in hand (Check in online!).

If you have checked luggage, and AMS is treated as your "final destination" on ticket #1; you'd have to clear passport control downstairs, wait for your luggage on the carousel, go through customs, then head upstairs and join the fray... dropping your bags at the airline counter of your second ticket, waiting in line to scan your boarding pass, waiting in line at security... then head to your gate after clearing security.

Just arrived at AMS from Budapest, next flight out is to the States. Took 10 min to reach passport control and 15 minutes to get through it. A bit disorganized, but not terrible.

I arrived at AMS this morning. It took me 50 min. to get from the plane, through passport control, and to my connecting flight. It was quite a walk from passport control, too. I will be flying home from AMS, and I am sure that it will be very different. But one can always hope that it will not be a nightmare as it has been for many.

The 2 greatest threats to getting through AMS are people in crowded lines with back packs whacking people in total bliss every time the turn one way or another; and groups of 3 or more all pulling their 2 wheels bag with no comprehension that they are hanging out 6 feet behind them tripping the innocent.

It's been years since I made a connection through that airport. Your transition will be simpler if you are travelling on a single itineray ticket. Even then there's a good chance that your hand baggege will be scanned as security for the ongoing airplane. There's almost no way of predicting how long that might take.

The OP is arriving from Canada. Security wise, Canada is on the safe list. This means that airport security in Canada is deemed to be safe. Which means that those arriving from Canada don’t need to go thru security when transferring to another flight at Schiphol.
In the case of the OP, they will leave the plane, go thru passport control and board their next flight. That’s it, only passport control, no security.
