We will be arriving from Portland on a Delta flight and have 2 1/2 hours to make a connecting flight to Prague via EasyJet. We are carrying on our bags on Delta to save time upon arrival but will be checking them with EasyJet.
Any tips to make this transfer as "easy" as possible?
It's always risky to make a connection with a discount airline. If your Portland flight arrives late and you miss the EJ flight your tickets are worthless:(
The only way to check bags with EJ is to exit the airport by going through immigration, head to Easy's check-in/baggage desk, back to immigration, on to a security screening, and to your departure gate. That's a lot of lines to wait in...keep you fingers crossed.
We were burned in a similar situation last spring. We had a flight into London and easyJet to Edinburgh. I thought I had covered myself by booking the changeable ticket and nearly a five hour window. Then three days before departure the flight was cancelled and we were rebooked for two days later. That wouldn't work because we had to be in Edinburgh. So we were rebooked through Frankfurt. Obviously the easyJet ticket was toast. I had assume we could get a credit since it was a changeable ticket but we had to immediately change to another flight of same value within the next year. Obviously we could not do that. Lesson learned.
Since you only have carry on bags, all you have to do when you get to Amsterdam is go to the EasyJet gate and check in there!!
You do not need to exit the secured area to do that!!
The OP said she was checking baggage on the Easyjet segment. Thus she will have to exit the terminal to check them.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
Luckily, everything went very well and we made our connecting flight just fine.
We printed our boarding passes ahead of time, carried on our luggage and also were seated towards the front of the plane so we were able to get off quickly. We just had to get to departure hall 3, go to the easyjet counter for "bag drop" and then through go security before heading to the M gate departure area. Very short lines everywhere.....worked out great!
