Transferring at Schiphol

Hello all! I would greatly appreciate some expert advice - I will be arriving at Schiphol Airport via Icelandair at 11:50 and would really like to catch a DB Bahn train at 12:18. Is this even possible? With taking the time to get off the plane, collect my luggage, go through customs (if I have to do that), and make it to the train platform in time. I'm telling myself that's not enough time but I just wanted to see what anyone here would have to say. Thanks for your time!

There is no way you are going to make this train. Period.

The train at 12:18 is a Dutch train to Utrecht which connects with the German ICE to Köln. The doors on the train are different from the doors on a plane. They don't close 10 minutes ahead. In fact the train is still arriving from the south 10 minutes before. They can be opened after the train stops, a minute or so before departure.

Nevertheless, this is still impossible.

The arrival time of the plane is the time the wheels touch down, not when the plane stops taxiing or gets to the gate. Then you have to get off, you say you have to collect luggage, and then you will have the customs (likely walk through but you never know) and then the long walk to the train station. Have you got your train tickets? Do you have to collect them?

Will you go through immigration to Schengen in Iceland or do you stay airside?

What are the odds that your plane will be early?

I'd put extremely long odds on your success, unfortunately.

But there are frequent trains to Köln and other German cities so there is no need to rush....

28 minutes..... Well I made it to curbside at SEA recently in that amount of time. I was in the front of economy, had only carry-on luggage and as it was a domestic flight, had no passport control to contend with. Add that and collecting checked baggage means you need to be looking at a later train.

Can't see it. Been to Schiphol a fair number of times and think it is very efficient.....but not close to that efficient!

The last time I went through Schipol, it took me half an hour JUST to get through passport control.

The same connection is available 2 hours later at 14:18. There are trains to Utrecht Centraal at roughly 15 minute intervals.

If you are flying with Iceland Air, from North America, you will be clearing customs and entering Schengen area at Keflevick Airport in Iceland. As such, You will be entering Schiphol, Amsterdam as an internal flight (flight within Schangen area) passenger and would not need to go through customs and immigration at Schiphol airport. Even then, allowing for flight delays with Iceland Air etc, your connection, in my opinion, is too tight for comfort.

Westnova, slight correction. If you are flying with Iceland Air, from North America, you will enter the Schengen Area, and go through immigration (passport control) in Iceland, No passport control a Amsterdam Schiphol.
But, Iceland is not in the EU, so there is customs when you land at Schiphol. But that is a technicality, you just walk through the "nothing to declare" door.

But, 28 minutes isn't even enough time to taxi and disembark. Go for the train 2 hours later.

Thanks to all for your help and advice. I really appreciate the fact that I can come on here and ask for advice and so many are willing to help. I will obviously be taking the later train.
