We will be on the Norwegian Sun and am looking for transportation from the port and back that afternoon.

Bus 382 every 15 minutes to Amsterdam Sloterdijk Railway station where you will need to change onto a train or tram into the City Centre. It takes about 45 minutes to Sloterdijk, or around 60 minutes into the City Centre.

Or take a taxi, or the ship will probably run a shuttle bus into the city- normally a roughly 30 minute ride. If they do, take the ship's bus.
Note that sometimes ships dock at the canal side of the Felison Ferry Terminal (not the same place) on Sluisplein. (normally smaller ships, so unlikely with NCL). When that happens you have a walk of about 1 1/2 miles along the canal side to the closest 382 stop at the Velsen cross canal ferry terminal.
