Transavia Holland

My husband and I are spending several days in Amsterdam in early September and then spending a week elsewhere. We are considering a direct flight from Amsterdam to Santorini on Transavia Holland. I have no experience with this airline and the reviews are about 50/50. Would appreciate any firsthand knowledge. Thanks in advance!

I flew them Paris to Amsterdam 2 years ago and Rotterdam to Bergerac last January. It is low cost airline owned by Air France–KLM, the service is similar to Easy Jet. I'd fly them again they have some interesting seasonal routes like Santorini. It does not look like you have any other choice from Amsterdam with out taking a connecting flight

I flew them from Amsterdam to Casablanca. They are part of the KLM network. It is a "budget" airline and has all the down-sides of those airlines. But if you are okay with that, the experience is satisfactory and they'll get you there!

A couple notes - They were quite strict about their luggage requirements. I ended up spending 50 Euro (!) to check a suitcase. They also insisted that I stuff my small purse into the small bag that I had - only one item per passenger allowed as a "carry-on." (My checked suitcase would have qualified as a carry-on, but then I would have had to stuff everything in my other two small items into it - no way!) The seating was tight. I was glad to have an aisle seat. I was not able to choose a seat until I checked in at the airport. The check-in person was going to put me in a window seat, but I insisted on an aisle and she gave it to me. If I recall, they charge for all beverages and food on board, so be prepared.

Have a great time in Santorini - so beautiful.

Thanks to both of you for your insights. Actually our plans have changed and we are now going to Morocco instead of Greece from Amsterdam (don't ask - first world problems for sure). Anyway, we are booked on TH for a direct flight from Amsterdam to Marrakesh. I have a hard time calling this a budget airline since I already spent a small fortune on the tickets, checked luggage (I purchased almost as much as they would allow) and reserved seats. The costs were actually a tad more than flying KLM/Air France but the direct flight and scheduled times worked better for us. Fingers crossed!
