We will be heading to the Centraal train station at about 6:30 AM. I know the trams can be difficult to use during the tourist season in April, but is that not an issue this early in the day?
We were there June 2022, and riding the trams any time of day was not an issue for us. After landing in Schipol, (subway from airport to Centraal), we travelled mostly between Centraal and Amstel stations.
An issue? The trams were easy to use when I visited a few years ago in April. What do you anticipate being difficult at 6:30am?
“ I know the trams can be difficult to use during the tourist season in April”
I’m puzzled as to why you would think that trams can be difficult to use during the tourist season in April? Trams run all year, so they do run in April.

Schiphol (with an H) is connected to Amsterdam Centraal station and lots of other places by regular trains or busses, not by the subway. Yes, the train station is located underneath the airport and the first part of the journey is thru a tunnel, but that still doesn’t make it a subway. It’s regular trains. Amsterdam does have a subway and there are some wild/vague plans to expand the subway all the way down to the airport, but that won’t happen in the near future.
I read that sometimes there are a lot of pedestrians clogging the streets and the trams have difficulty getting through. Glad to learn it’s not as bad as I’d imagined.
After you check into your hotel, make it your business to locate the best tram stop for the train station, note the numbers of the (many) tram lines that stop there, and probably without even needing the internet, a sign that shows the weekday (?) frequency between 6AM and 7AM.
This is a major city of the world, and mass transportation is extremely important. It has a "status" above mass trans. in the U.S.
