Tram ticket questions

We will be in Amsterdam in September and based on our itinerary a 48 hour tram "day ticket" will be best.

I have reviewed the GVB site and wonder if someone can tell me what the difference is between the OV-Chipkaart vs paper ticket. Would I have to buy the card separate and then load it?

Also, on one section of the site it said that as of February these day tickets could not be bought on the Tram, however in a different section it said the 1 or 2 day options could be? Are these available on board?

Thank you.

The OV-chipkaart is only useful with a longer stay. The card itself costs EUR 7,50, needs a minimum balance, and has of course the trouble of refunding the remaining balance on leaving.
The city centre of Amsterdam is quite small. You'll find out a lot can be done walking.
