Train travel from Amsterdam to Paris to Switzerland

We plan to travel by train from Amsterdam to Paris, then Paris to Zermatt, Switzerland.
(Will fly from US to Amsterdam and then Zurich back to US)

Which train station in Amsterdam and in Paris are for international trains and which for local?
(I see the NS information in the RS Amsterdam and Netherlands book. Plan to use that to get to Haarlem)

I am confused about which site to use to book the trips and purchase these country to country
tickets.
I read and see Eurostar in regard to the train. Eurostar is a different site than Rail Europe. I downloaded the Rail Europe app but don’t know if that is the correct site or the best way to proceed.

Please assist with how to go about this on a legitimate site and what I need to know to secure tickets from city to city.

Thank you!

Rail Europe is a ticket reseller, avoid them. Eurostar is the company that runs the trains from Amsterdam to Paris, buy the tickets from them, www.eurostar.com From Paris to Zermatt you buy the tickets from SBB, www.sbb.ch

Whope - www.sbb.ch does not offer an English option. Or, I am unable to find/see it.
How might I navigate this site or what other legit option is available?
Thank you

And or, what the difference between Swisspass and sbb.ch? Not sure which one to use.

On the top of the site you see a small globe and it says Deutsch, click on it and select the language of your choice.

local trains use all the stations in the Netherlands and almost all the stations in France. Long distance trains only make a few stop or they would take forever to cross the long distances, and often stop in only the major stations along the way.

Specifically - for your question - Amsterdam Centraal (construction makes some changes) and Schiphol Airport to Paris gare de Nord (station for north, but the signs will all have gare de Nord - gare is French for station).

It would be a great help to have an idea of how soon your trip is so we can help with ticket strategy

Trip is in a little over a month. We are guessing the volume from Olympic visitors will make things very busy and crowded.

Ticket wise out of Paris, the routes and direction are stumping me as well. There is a long list of “direction” options when I enter Paris to Zermatt. How does one know which one to choose? I’d think we’ll get there regardless but is one route friendlier to navigate than another in regard to stops and changing trains?

For Paris-Zermatt, my recommendation would be Paris-Geneva(or Lausanne)-Visp-Zermatt. It's a scenic route and just as fast as the less-scenic Paris-Basel-Brig-Zermatt route.

JulieV, you may have figured this out, but if you're on the sbb website, and looking at a particular routing, click on the connections button (little blue icon to the left) and it will tell you exactly when and where you have to make transfers.

And dont confuse the long-distance rail system in Paris, with the local commuter systems, Metro and RER. The stations might be co-located but they are separate systems.

Balso, really appreciate that suggestion! We absolutely will appreciate a scenic route - long trip!
Stan, I did not know that. Just began exploring it, saw the many directions and stops along the way indicated by “dots” - some solid some empty - and sought help here. Thank you!
Yes, the local and international/long distance stations I need to learn as well. Planning, reading, asking, learning, planning, etc.

Thanks much!
