Hi Everyone
First off thanks for all your input about where to stay and we will stay in Haarlem. I am also wondering about any good tours in Amsterdam we have 4 days but would like a good tour one day to discover all the things you can't do on your own. There are 4 of us (two middle aged couples). We love history culture people and food. Again thanks so much in advance.

There isn't much need for a tour. All the things you're likely to be interested in, are in the compact city centre. You don't need more than to get yourself acquainted with one or two of the tram lines. This gives a good overview: http://maps.gvb.nl/en/lijnen

We thoroughly enjoyed a city walking tour with Mark of ThatDamGuide and would highly recommend it. The tour lasted about three hours with one short stop with time for a quick coffee or beer. We enjoyed it so much that we will do this tour again. I also saw someone on this site mention another tour which we would like to do: HistoryWalks
We stayed in Amsterdam for a week and the tour was a highlight of our stay. Enjoy your visit!
